A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.
After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister, Scarlett, from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.
The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister's. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice, but now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever...
Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . the games have only just begun.
πMy Thoughts:
First off, Tella's character is annoying AF compared to Scarlett. I don’t enjoy her POV nearly as much. While this book takes you on quite a ride, it seems to lack a little of the sparkle of Book 1. I think that might just be Scar’s character that we're missing out on. While Tella has great character development she spends a large part of the book being quite vapid, shallow, and to be frank, stupid. I think I’d have enjoyed a dual POV more here but that probably would have made the book much longer. There were certainly some surprises in this storyline and many of them I didn’t even remotely see coming. Learning more about the mother of the girls was intriguing. Finding out Legend’s identity had me on the edge of my seat. All so very exciting! I wouldn’t say this book ends on a cliffhanger per se, but it does leave a lot of questions unanswered. I launched right in to book 3 which I am about 40% through as of now. Book 3 is dual POV and I'm already enjoying it more. I highly recommend having it in queue to read after book 2.
