Saint by Aries Skye

Image
Love Brothers #3 Rating: 4/5 Spice: 3/5 Plot: 5/5 Primary Genre: Mafia Romance Blurb:  Saint Love is reckless, ruthless, and ready for war. When his family is accused of killing a powerful ally, bullets fly and blood spills, leaving one member of the Love family fighting for their life. Saint dives headfirst into revenge, uncovering dangerous ties and a betrayal closer than he ever imagined. In the middle of the war, he finds unexpected solace in Lowe—the calm to his storm. The right calm caught at the wrong time. Forced between loyalties, Saint must eliminate the enemy threatening their family before they destroy them all. My Thoughts: This book is short but wow, a lot happens in these pages! I didn’t read the first two books but I didn’t feel lost at all, I applaud the authors ability to put you into the middle of a story and make you feel aware of what’s going on without having to go into a whole detailed back story. Out of the three brothers in the family, Saint is the young...

Flight 725 by Kaylynn Hunt and Octavia Grant

Purchase Book #2 in the 725 Files Rating: 3.5/5 - Rounding up to 4 Spice: 0/5 Plot: 4/5 Primary Genre: Thriller Blurb: On a red-eye from New York to Los Angeles, the passengers of Flight 725 are shaken by a sudden, blinding flash of light. As they try to make sense of what happened, terror strikes—one of them is found dead, and it’s clear the death was no accident. With the plane still in the air and nowhere to run, the passengers realize they are trapped with a killer. Paranoia spreads as everyone becomes a suspect, and trust dissolves in the claustrophobic cabin. As the body count rises, the survivors must identify the murderer before the plane lands—or before they all meet a gruesome end. My Thoughts: I liked this quick little thriller. There were a lot of characters that all had interesting back stories. I would have liked to see them fleshed out a bit more. There were so many characters that this started to get confusing. *SPOILERS* * * * * * * * * * * * * SPOILERS IN THE STRIK...

The Peculiar Gift of July by Ashley Ream

Image
Purchase Rating: 4/5 Spice: 0/5 Plot: 5/5 Primary Genre: Magical realism/cozy fantasy Blurb: With a dash of magic and an ensemble cast of oddball, small-town characters, this feel-good novel explores forgiveness, family, and the sense of humor it takes to live with the ones we love the most. Ebey’s End is a small town on an island off the Pacific coast, reachable only by ferry (assuming the gods are with you and it’s not a Tuesday). It’s a comfortable, familiar (but okay, fine, sometimes lonely) life for its resident grocer Anita Odom. That is, until fourteen-year-old July shows up on her doorstep. Taking in the recently orphaned daughter of an estranged cousin had not been on Anita’s to-do list. In fact, it’s a terrible idea. Anita is ill-suited, ill-prepared, and absolutely certain the entire enterprise will end in disaster—for both of them. From the moment she arrives, July seems to “know” what each customer at the Island Grocery needs. They’re small: a housekeeping magazine sli...

This news doesn’t come as a surprise to Hattie, and she plans to return to Charlotte at the weekend’s end. Then the king’s sudden death thrusts each princess into a personal quest that shows her the truth behind the kingdom’s “perfection” and challenges her sense of purpose. Purchase Adelaide Springs Love Stories #2 Rating: 3/5 Spice: 0/5 Plot: 3/5 Primary Genre: Romance Trigger Warnings: Mention of terminal illness, abandonment, alchohol/prescription drug use, death of a family member/parent Favorite Quote: Who knew romantic comedy was such a brutal sport? Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan

Image
5/5 Stars This book started out very slow for me, I had a hard time getting into it. The first three chapters felt slower than molasses in January, then of a sudden it's like you're on the freeway and you realize that your brakes don't work. Ok, not that extreme because this obviously isn't a thriller but this book is like mainlining dopamine from Chapter 4 and beyond. I was literally blushing on my living room couch, eating Goldfish in my sweatpants and a messy bun like I myself was having a summer romance.  The FMC starts out sad. Her life is full of endings and she can't seem to get her shit together. She's 38, she has 3 kids, and btw, Fuck Peter. That's all that I have to say about that. I like that the MCs are in their late 30's. They're full-on fucking grown ups and isn't that refreshing.  This is a fade to black romance so if it's smut you're searching for, search elsewhere. It is meaningful with a hint of sadness. It's got the...

Love & Chickens by Kasey Morris

Image
5/5 Stars This is definitely unlike any book I've ever read. A romance novel heavily threaded with chickens. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this and I didn't have super high hopes but I ended up absolutely loving this book. If you know nothing at all about chickens, like me, trust that you'll still enjoy this read. This book gave off a Jane Austen vibe that I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters are well rounded in a way that you feel like you know exactly who they are and understand their thoughts/actions. There's even some chicken espionage! You'll more than likely learn something about birds, especially if you're like me and end up googling the bird breeds referenced.  Long story short, I started this book about 24 hours ago and I've finished it because I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romance or a great romcom. You can purchase this book by clicking the cover art above and I may earn a smal...

Purchase Charming Cove #3 My Rating: 5/5 Stars Primary Genre: Paranormal romance Blurb:  Autumn is a time of snuggly sweaters, crisp breezes, and…. sexy, broody werewolves?  When I inherit a magical house in the beautiful seaside village of Charming Cove, it’s just what I need to turn my dismal life around. Fresh off a bad breakup and with magic that I’ve ignored for a decade, I’m ready to rekindle my inner witch.  The catch? The house is inhabitable until I renovate it, and the only place to live is with a brooding, rugged boat-builder who  definitely  doesn’t want me in his space. Though there’s no denying the electric spark between us, neither of us is willing to act on it.  To make things more complicated, I have to renovate the house in thirty days or I’ll lose it. But the house hates anyone who enters it and attacks with loose floorboards and horrific odors. I can’t get a single contractor in Charming Cove to help me out.  That leaves on...

The Paleontologist by Luke Dumas

Image
5/5 Stars Let me begin by saying that I won this book as an advanced reader copy in a Goodreads giveaway. This book is not something that I would normally gravitate towards but I found the description very intriguing.  Ok, now that we've got that out of the way, this book is the best one I've read in months. Dumas's writing comes off as prose at times. It's poetic and beautiful, which is definitely not lost on me. The book is so intelligently written with such an incredible story. It's got some elements of  Jurassic Park, Night at the Museum, The Black Phone all carefully rolled into a very original, beautiful and surprising story. One of the things that I really enjoyed in this book were drawings of the dinosaurs and the way that they helped bring the museum displays to life. I don't know much about them (dinosaurs) and I found myself googling a lot of prehistoric names in the barely 24 hours (after working 12 hours) this book took me to read (when I say page...
