Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths. Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss's enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach. As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it. With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom-and the power of love.
My Thoughts:
I’ve learned my lesson with these 700+ Sarah J Maas books, I’ve got to start writing the review right away when I finish it or all of the books in the series start running together. I just finished this book tonight and I spent so much fucking time crying it was absurd. This is the best SJM series started that I’ve read so far. It’s leaps and bounds ahead of TOG and ACOTAR as far as series starters go. I don’t understand the people who that this book is slow, I didn’t find it to be slow at all. By the time I made it to Chapter 5, I could not put the book down. There’s a murder mystery to be solved, lots of sexual tension, a stolen artifact to locate and some twists that you’ll never see coming. At least not if you’re me. I was shocked, like jaw hanging open shocked. On top of that, this book is raw with emotion. I cried SO much. I think I started crying in Chapter 78 and cried on and off for the rest of the 97 chapter book. I really liked the FMC Bryce, she’s my favorite SJM FMC so far. Hunt is also awesome and with the way this book ended I am excited to launch into book two. Book two is where the ACOTAR crossover starts, imagine my surprise when I heard rumblings about that :) Obviously that meant I had to read this series and I am so so glad that I’ve finally started it. DON’T MISS
