Blurb: She's the innocent, sheltered rich girl. He's the campus playboy with a reputation. When it's time for her to take over for her late mother as CEO, a scandal tears at the seams of everything on campus, making her realize not everything is as it seemed on the outside. It's far more dangerous. Welcome to Willow Bay University. Business, pleasure, and academics collide and no one will be left untouched as everything and everyone is tested to the limit. This book is a New Adult spicy romance featuring he falls first, a push-and-pull relationship, bad boy x good girl, with darker themes and a masked man side character every early reader has become obsessed with. This is the first of a complete duology and is suitable for those wanting to dip their toes into the dark romance genre and explore darker themes.
My Thoughts:
The plot of this book was wild! It reads more like a romantic suspense novel with some spice with a sprinkle of mafia vibes. The FMC is likeable, however, she is super naive and oblivious. She also spends a strange amount of time vomiting. The MMC is a morally black bad boy with an insane girlfriend straight out of the movie Jawbreaker. The quirky side characters really round the story out and make it shine, in my opinion. I came to love Fallon’s bodyguard James. He’s giving found family. Reaper is hilarious in his own twisted way and he loves kitties. Martha is just super sweet. WARNING: So many of the characters are completely and totally despicable, you may find yourself needing a drink or a cigarette while reading. I don’t drink OR smoke, so that means I was sweatin’ while reading this book. Incredible plotline, especially for a debut effort. I was sucked in to the story immediately and my brain could barely keep up with the roller coaster of constant changes. It does end on a cliffhanger, which ya’ll know pisses me off to no end and this cliffhanger is MAJOR. But if I know Faye, she’s already got something cookin’ and we won’t have to wait too long to pick up where we left off.
