I am the servant of a merciless God. I am the daughter of Its preacher. All my life, my power has been controlled by others. They raised me to be meek and stifled my magic. But no more. A brutal murder led me to discover a mysterious house full of magic - and the ancient, powerful demon within. He says my power can change the world, that I can kill the evil creature I once worshipped. But at what cost?
Callum
For two thousand years, I've been alone. Slaughtering fallen Gods as I searched for the witch that haunted my dreams, begging for my help. Now that I've found her, I will protect her with my life. But when the fate of Earth, Heaven, and Hell hangs in the balance, not even her soul is safe from destruction. If a choice must be made, I'll let the world burn if it means having her as my own.
Each book within the Souls Trilogy is interconnected, following a different couple through a similar timeline in the fictional world of Abelaum.
The Good:
* I couldn’t stand Callum after meeting him in the first two books but his character is much more likable in Soul of a Witch. In fact, after meeting all of the demons in depth I don’t even think that I can pick a favorite. I really like them all. Callum is your typical obsessed, over-the-moon in love demon. It’s pretty cute.
* I absolutely LOVED the sentient coven house and all of the interesting things that it could do for Everly. It was interesting to add in to the storyline.
* I really liked the coven house side characters Everly’s grandmother Winona and the tree fae Darragh. They helped keep the book a little lighter, even in the midst of an apocalypse. Both characters are very entertaining.
The Meh:
* I found Everly’s character to be my least favorite in the series. She seemed to lack main character energy to me. Beyond that, her lack of assertiveness was frustrating to me.
* Tell me why they took a vacation to hell when the world was on the verge of an apocalypse and they’re the only ones who can save it? Because no.
* I wish the epilogue had tied up the stories of everyone from all three books rather than just Everly’s. It did touch on the fate of the other two girls but it would have been cool it they each got their own chapter in the epilogue.
Bottom Line:
This series is perfect for anyone who enjoyed 50 Shades, enjoys fantasy books or books with a paranormal/fantasy element. To me, this is pretty mild on the dark romance scale so it would be great for a fantasy reader who’s looking to dip their toe into dark romance. While this isn’t my favorite book in the series, mostly because I’m not a huge instalove fan, the plot is fantastic and the heat is high. If you skipped over all of the smut scenes in this book series you'd still have a small town with an interesting cast of characters and a storyline that goes nuts.
