Love kills kingdoms…
Back in Grim’s castle on Nightshade, Isla is reeling in the wake of a brutal battle and the devastating truths it exposed. Her future—and the fate of the world—now hinge on a heart split in two.
Past Isla, who fell in love with the ruler of Nightshade, fights to resist feelings she considers treasonous. The Isla of the present, who has seen the ruin her powers can cause, will do anything to save Lightlark and its king.
As the line between enemy and friend is tested, Isla is more desperate than ever to understand the oracle’s final prophecy and change her heartrending fate. But a storm is coming. And with it, a long-buried evil greater than anything the realms have faced before.
With the clock ticking on her destiny and the survival of two warring kingdoms hinging on her own shattered heart, Isla Crown will either save the world—or destroy it.
My Thoughts:
I don’t know why I waited almost a year to read this book, I loved it. This is my favorite fantasy series at the moment, Alex Aster has yet to miss for me. I’ve been reading along as her writing has evolved and matured and I’m obsessed. Isla torn between Grim and Oro makes for quite the tortured romance plot for book 3. Alex does spice it up a little bit more in this book than the others, it’s still not what I would call spicy though. I will say that the sexual tension seems a lot more amped up here, however. If you’re a fan of love triangles, you’ll love this book because that’s basically the main plot of this book. Isla is attempting to avoid fulfilling her prophecy and choosing one of the men all at the same time. Honestly, I kind of get it. The whole Team Grim/Team Oro thing is puzzling to me at this point, I’m just as confused about who I want her to end up with as she is I think. Grim gives off Rhysand vibes but Oro is a list of all of the qualities you’d want in a husband and zero of the murderiness you get with Grim. But I also just feel bad for Oro because as we already know, Isla and Grim are married but she fell in love with Oro due to Grim wiping her memories of their relationship so now everything is in limbo. It’s still giving 3rd wheel vibes for Oro. Anyways, in the midst of all of this emotional drama, Isla is attempting to avoid her fate and doing a bunch of crazy stuff to attempt to avoid the prophecy, unleashes hell on earth and the book ends on a cliffhanger. If I were you, I’d make sure that I have Crowntide ready to go before you finish this one.
